Initially I liked the book, but later on I got confused because the author believes that reader knows of many foreign policies, events, etc. It seems those indoctrinated into the current dominating social order of intellectual and economic worth, including myself an aristocrat who fears and distrusts people who draws all powers from them into the hands of the higher classesenjoy the benefits of such a hierarchal system which has led to an unquestioning status quo state-of-being.

Chomsky and Macedo’s book fulfills this task with great courage and penetrating wisdom. He argues that our schools are not democratic entities, but are increasingly serving capitalistic interests. Son of a Russian emigrant who was a Hebrew scholar, Chomsky was exposed at a young age to the study of language and principles of grammar.

I re-read it when I was sixteen, giving the armchair sissy another chance. The first chapter is an interview chlmsky Donaldo Macedo, short but interesting. But, I’m glad I read something by Chomsky rather than just watching Chomsky is a man everyone should read.
